The science of Rutabaga

There are many great things about dumpster diving. One of these is that sometimes you end up with veggies or fruits you never had on your plate before. Like today, when I went out with Marc dumpstering at the Ten Cate Market, we hit the jackpot with kilos and kilos of some food we had never seen before. And after cooking and eating it, I really wanted to know more about the delicious food I just had.

Tango Finlandia

It's the second darkest day of the year, and it really feels like it too: I haven't seen the sun at all, and the black only becomes some lighter shade of grey for some hours between 9 and 15. So to share the gloominess of tomorrow's Winter Solstice with you guys, I present Tango Finlandia (through a comment to my Flickred observation)

But it's not all bad - thanks to the younger generation we sometimes even get to hug people :-o

Creative Communists

While moving the house guidelines from Hitchwiki over here I figured that we forgot something important (well, the license). Since we're all creative communists anyway who all agreed to the terms of use by entering la Casa the central committee has decided to quickly move the license of content on this website to CC-BY-SA. Marc?
P.S.

shit luck

I just realized that I can't seem to find my hitchhiking notebook anywhere. I've somewhere, somehow lost it.

My hitchhiking notebook is an unlined white notebook full of signs, destinations I've hitchhiked in the past 6 months, over two continents and innumerable locations.

It had a lot of sentimental value and stories attached to it (obviously), and as it was full, I was planning to scan its pages in at CasaRobino before I left, but the scanners were not yet working. Some of the signs were nice drawings, and I wanted a way to preserve them.

Omelet Competition

The lush hills above Barcelona
are dry for months at a time.
Everything which thrives scrounges water.
Including these gardens.
Here sinks and showers catch gray water
which is separated in barrels
and irrigates these lands.

It grows not just the communities food
but that of the neighbors who share this liberated plot
rescued from half a centuries disuse.

for 7 years now these gardens have flourished
defying the local authorities
yet with the budding support of the local people
who not only grow their food here
but come to meetings and pot lucks and parties

there are no mountains in the netherlands

grenoble

So I present you some French ones instead.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the "Share a photo" feature is broken. This one is hosted by flickr.

RepRap @ Peak Hierarchy

BirdHouse: A birdhouse made out of bio-plastic soon coming to the Casa?BirdHouse: A birdhouse made out of bio-plastic soon coming to the Casa? Yesterday, some of us attended a reading of our friend Michel Bauwens and got the opportunity to meet Erik, who opened our eyes of how easy it is to create our own customizable manufacturing capability.

Erik is involved in the Fablab-movement and he spoke with us about his experience with RepRap's. These are 3D printers designed to be freely reproduced by anyone. The cost of making them yourself is 500 euro.

But here comes the funny thing: you don't actually have to buy these components to build up the printer, but you manufacture them through a different 3D-printer, by using shared digital designs, and then assemble them yourself.

drupalwiki.net

Just started ''another'' wiki, [http://drupalwiki.net/en/Main_Page Drupalwiki]. I often find myself wading through tons of pages to find an answer to a Drupal question, and when I found it I don't know where I should record the info or how I can even update the thing. MediaWiki is still vastly superior to Drupal when it comes to wikis - especially when open for anonymous editing.
