ressurect the dinner's in order to cover rent+ other expenses of the casa

Today i saw a bill of unpaid rent hanging in the kitchen :( Would it be an idea to organize 2 vo-ku's a week, like tuesday/thursday, dumpster-dive the food (there's more than enough available in A'dam), spent evrytime around 10 euro's on extra ingredients, and make a sign saying "Suggested donation 2,50", put it on a big glass pot and hang the bill under it :) from previous dinner's we learned that it's quite good possible to have around 35 ppl in the house, say like 10 of them are hoists, u still will get around 50 euro's a dinner, twice a week, for 4 weeks would make 400, almost covering the bill of 415,? :) And then revive pan-cake sunday for special expenses like a new oven and what we all need more in the casa :)

Stories should work!

Hey everybody!

I think there are a lot of people in Casa who have very interresting travelling/hitchhiking/dumpsterdiving/nomadic lifestile stories to tell, it should be enough to get some donations. And I understand that Casa don't need very much publicity, so maybe we can arrange story-telling events in some other place. Or write them down, make as a simple book and sell by donations or fixed price.

I'm new there and never been in Casa for now so maybe I don't understand what is and what is not acceptable for Casa but I think that stories should work in any form!

See you there some day!

Thursday night cleaning dinner :P

"Especially the thursday night dinner is rather a dinner where everyone takes part in doing something, be it collecting the food, cleaning, making conversations, do some cleaning, etc. It is about doing that together..." Did I already mention cleaning?

I'm joking here... just wanted to take the heat out of the situation...
hopefully someone still cooks :P

it is the cooking that was hot :)

You know I don't really like this type of debates on a website especially when it has 1. not been discussed face-to-face before or 2. if they can be done offline better.

But, we have done some thinking about this, and one of the ideas (Heather) is to maybe have some themed Sunday lunches. Like: to mix a lunch with a specific presentation of someone or a project. For example, Bikingscool or Random Roads, or a recent trip to Mongolia, the hitchgathering, breadtimestories, etc

We could have that once a month or every forthnight and people could propose a theme, also when they live outside the casa....

Such an event we can easily promote in our communities.

funny jokes...

I know. And, without entering in the specific debate, i agree with your comment: sometimes we forget that we can still interact face-to-face instead than rely on mediated communication (read: internet).

but my joke was too funny to keep it for myself. i still laugh about it... :)

nice suggestions, and we can think more...

Nice suggestions, and thanks for thinking along. There are however some things that casa is, and isn't.

For one, dinners are open and free. For everyone. Just like staying in the house is for free. I wouldn't be happy it that would ever change.

Especially the thursday night dinner is rather a dinner where everyone takes part in doing something, be it collecting the food, cleaning, making conversations, do some cleaning, etc. It is about doing that together.

Another thing is that casa is not a squat as we know it. Some things, like a voku as you see it, would not be a thing that would fit the casa very well... We are open but not that open. We wouldn't be able to advertise it for example widely.

Of course we can ask for donations, but that's another thing. And I think how we can ask for donations, and for what purpose is yet another discussion. Such a discussion is better also to be done offline or at least - to be able to speak more freely - you could choose (before posting this), to make the post only readable for people who are authenticated. There is an option below the submission field for that.

In addition, the fact that the dinners have not been so crowded anymore, isn't necessarily a bad thing. It has been a lot more intimate lately for example and I see that as a good thing also. Quality has become more important. Plants don't only grow in one direction.

Lastly, having casa always busy isn't what I envision. You should know that. We need our times also to accomplish things, not slave away to keep it organised.
