Casa crew Unite

Lily, Bobby and George unite as Casa crew in Palo Alto, California. George and I rode down from San Francisco on a beautiful sunny afternoon, and met Bobby at his sweet new share-house co-opy(ish) in Palo Alto.

George also delivered a lightfoot letter that had been doing the rounds for at least a year. SO exciting to get it!! thanks Robin!!

BreadTime Stories at Nomadic Future: do you want to be part of it?

BreadTime Stories at Nomadic Future: do you want to be part of it?

Work in progress description of the Project BREAD-TIME STORIES for the conference Nomadic Future. I'm planning to submit it as it is by the end of this week if nobody of you wants to participate to make the bread and live in the WALKING House.
let me know.

*** It is possible to ideate a variation of the project by refreshing and kneading the bread in the WALKING HOUSE. In that case, we could propose to live there for the period necessary to the performance.

If the hosts will not have an oven in their houses, a public oven will need to be found by us.

deadline to submit proposal is May the 17th and we can ask for funds if we want.
I propose to participate to the conference at the beginning of June, but I'm flexible.

The project Bread-Time Stories. I Bake the Bread, you Tell the Stories is developed through nomadic art performances, photographic exhibitions, and a website (currently under construction).

The art performance:

Bread-Time Stories is an art project based on concepts of gift economy, sharism, nomadism, and peer-to-peer exchange. The performance takes place on different stages (kitchens, bakeries, squares) and it is exhibited in different forms (stories are narrated as part of a travel diary, meanwhile video clip are edited starting from raw pictures, videos, and audio recordings).

The performance requires the participation of the public. In fact, Bread-Time Stories is the time reserved to exchange home-made bread with personal stories from random people.

The bread is made out of a natural sourdough composed of water, organic flour, air, water, and a tear of honey. This special yeast, before being used for Bread Time Stories, had been traveling for several countries in Europe, as a part of another project called Pastamadre (Mother Pasta), started in March 2010 in the South of Italy.

Since then, the sourdough has been refreshed by mixing original with local ingredients (organic flour, and local air and water). Therefore, its taste carries a special flavour, and a symbolic value given by the combination of the different elements and cultures and by the random acts of trust necessary for the project to be alive.

As a matter of fact, the Bread is prepared in the houses of the people who, inspired by the idea, or just met randomly during the journey, opened their kitchen, offered their couch, and shared their oven to make the bread happen.

Feed by these gifts, the bread is brought into the roads and the squares of cities around the world. So far, it has been traveling in Mexico, in the squares of Merida, Cancun, San Cristobal de las Casas, and Oaxaca.

Here the artist, sitting with a sign saying “I give Bread for Free in exchange of Personal Stories, waits for a random act of trust. People come close to share their memories, their personal stories, or the ones from their oral tradition. The act is random, voluntary, and based on the idea of gift (you take what it is given to you, giving back whatever personal story you decide).

Bread-Time.Stories documents the nomadic journey made by this Bread.
It tells about the time in which valuable things, such as home-made bread and personal stories orally narrated, are exchanged to for currencies but for human values. From these mutual gifts new connections are created.

BreadTime Stories exhibits a collection of episodes, fears, joys, habits, and traditions that has got the invaluable smell of everyday mystery and beauty. Like bread.
