In your experience, dear anyone reading this, from user's & artist's point of view, which free & open photo gallery software you like the best? (geeky preferences are slightly different - may the best code win! - but would definitely appreciate that insight as well)

@ kardan: the free service IS a much better idea, i agree... in fact, i'm in the midst of trying to set up a website, which will ultimately be the best. there are a few things i got addicted to with flickr, though, like the layout, functionality, the community, storage/download capacity, etc... if it hadn't been for these things, i would have left flickr long ago.

did you consider to change to a free service? there are lots of flickr alternatives (none of them are free), but I am sure somebody would be happy to set up a photogallery software for you.
Or: there are plugins for drupal and crabgrass can handle galleries now too.
Just ask realitygaps or me of you want to put your pictures to a free non-commerical service.
