a spot in someone's garden...?

a spot in someone's garden...?

Hello everyone,

I don't really know where to look so I thought "casa-ists" might be able to give me a bit of advice!

I am in the mood for planting a tent in a green area, where my needs would be : toilet, access to tap or fresh water, quiet sleep, organic grapes, privacy/solitude when I wish, and no scheduled activity (or little) (or I could do some work but not too tiring and not too many hours). :)
I have a bit of money, but not much.

another option would be of renting someone's van for a little, but I don't know if that's possible.

Does anyone have any idea where I could start looking?
Or other suggestions for getting away for someone who mainly wants to sleep and eat grapes and not think too much?

bises and hugs,
Sarah

Thanks so much for your replies Sma and Jesus
So in the end I found a nice spot in Brittany and its even quite sunny right now (and in the end I'm indoors).
I'm staying here for September and then we'll see. Greece & Macedonia definitely sound good good good....... :)

I know they're cold, but

I know they're cold, but Scotland and Scandinavia allows you to camp anywhere for free. One week's rent is enough to afford you a really decent tent, stove and sleeping bag. I did it London for almost a year by building camouflage around it in a country park but it's really great to not have to worry about being 'discovered'.
Bon courage!

another idea is this really

another idea is this really happy place/hippie community in macedonia, in a little village. they don't work too hard but they try to progress as much as possible. when i was there they were asking for 2-3 eur a day for food/electricity. it's beautiful the place..and there are grapes but not sure how long they will last :) toilets are dry toilets. shower is more like pots and buckets in a wooden construction. there are fleas but they aren't so bad..you get used to them..the place and people more than make up for that little annoyance.

i`m not sure how cold it will be in winter..so maybe you should hurry.
village name is Star Istevnik. it's so small that you will walk in it and see signs to the community..

some people do yoga every morning..they eat together and play music in the evening..atmosphere is amazing..chilled out..but they are trying to work also :)

this is Maja, she started this little paradise somehow.. http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/majatraja/
u don't need to write to her i think u can just turn up. there's no internet in the village so she doesn't login so often on CS..

Did someone call my name?

Hey everyone, haven't been on here for a while now, they don't really have internet much in rural communes in Greece and gypsy campsites in England... So, yes, normally you would be very welcome to come to Greece and stay in our garden. The only problem is that nobody is there at the moment.... I am in England, living in my bus (in a gypsy campsite as mentioned earlier), and Christine (the other permanent resident of Great Hobonia in Greece) is busy studying for art school for the next couple of months. I have no idea whatsoever what my plans are, I am just waiting on bureaucratic bullpoo at the moment here, and then I think I have to go to Berlin to visit friends and fix a bus that's been sat unused for almost 2 years now.. Then hopefully go to Munich for some music-related stuff and eventually work my way down the balkans heading for Great Hobonia where I'm hoping to winter out. But that won't be until November I guess, by which time Christine will probably also be available.. So if you can wait until November, feel free to come over.

Until then, there's plenty of space for a tent in the gypsy site I'm staying at, and there is water nearby. No toilet though (you'll have to dig a hole for that) and no free electricity. There's a couple of generators, but people have to contribute fuel and maintenance money for that. There's an endless supply of blackberries in the woods there, but for the rest of your food needs, the north of England can be tricky for dumpster diving.. They lock up their bins like they've got gold in them! Two other negative points are that it's fucking cold here at the moment (dunno which part of the world you're from and how used to cold weather you might be) and that the area surrounding the site is quite terrible. The industrial side of Sheffield, with polluting factories working during the daytime and prostitutes, pimps and drug dealers working the streets by night. The site itself is lovely, tucked away inside the woods, and nobody apart from us dares to come anywhere near it (social divisions of England you see), so it's one of the safest places around.

Oh, there's also a homeless shelter in town that provides free showers and cheap meals.

You're generally welcome to also bus-surf with me if you want to, but since I do have a bit of a busy schedule and tend to move around a lot catching up with the bureucrats, I'm not sure how reliable this would be long-term.

People living on site are very friendly generally, and if you decide to put up a tent, there's also loads of space deep inside the woods where vehicles and caravans can't go, so you can also be quite isolated if you want to. There's plenty of wood around as well to use for heating, but for inside a tent I'm not sure what your options are.

If you want to come over, let me know. It's best to call me or give me your number so I can sms you (as internet access is rare). I don't really want to post my number on here as it's publicly viewable, but if you have any private way of being contacted, I can send you my number that way. Or if Robin has your number, I'm pretty sure he also has mine (and if he doesn't he/you can get it from Anja), so you can also find my number this way.

Take care...

i'm incredibly late with

i'm incredibly late with replies but p.s. dumpstering should work if you have the dumpster triangle key..unless they use some special lock in which case some glue will fix that in a few days :) so food shouldn't be an issue..

I really wish I could help

I really wish I could help you with this but I don't have much more advice then: walk around France and you'll find your spot ;-)

And you know you don't even need money for that! :)

But then Greece comes to my mind. Maybe there is something for you? Jesus could then be an option. He stayed at the casa before and Sma was with him for a while last winter.

Thank you. Greece sounds like

Thank you. Greece sounds like an idea. I asked both Sma &Jesus about it so lets see :)

a van

Where are you located? My van is on the east coast of the US, and will be unused for a month or more (minus some work I need to do in a few days).
