Save the Bikes

Once in a while the bike-police goes around the neighboorhoud to take away bikes that they think are useless. Be aware, they will make these decisions for you. First they will put up an orange sticker on the bike, and after a week they come back to cut your chain and steal your bike without any mercy.

We already lost two bikes for this reason. True, the bikes they took away were not very usable (we hadn't even given them names), but still. And just last week they gave a sticker to Gypsy, as it was missing its front wheel. We removed the sticker the very same day but just now, a week alter, they came back to take it away. I had to go down to have a discussion with them and explain them I was repairing it. Their answer: we give you some days before we really are going to remove it. And, they said, as Gypsy is attached to also another bike, "we will
also take away that one".

So, as a reminder: Check the bikes on a regular basis and when you see an orange sticker on it, remove it, and get the bike fixed within a week.

Im not sure it is a good idea

Im not sure it is a good idea to remove the stickers, because it can be seen as a way to warn the owners of the bikes in order for them to fix/remove their bikes. When the agents came to remove our bikes we had previously removed the stickers.

When you see orange stickers

When you see orange stickers you should go around the neighbourhood and remove them everywhere! From good bikes at least...

How come they have the right to take away these bikes? Isn't there a possibility to sue them? (Or have I spent too much time in the US already?)
