In one of the most cosmopolitan neighborhoods of Amsterdam stands a travellers house, the functioning principles of which are re-invented every day. Welcome to Casarobino, a nomad base where everybody is a host and nobody is a guest.
When you ring the intercom you will be asked the password then a host will open the door with a big smile and a hug, you will thenreceive a key. travellers, nomads, cooks, hitchhikers, artists, cyclists, hippies, businessmen, cultural refugees... your new flatmates will probably have some stories to tell you.
in Casarobino there is no rules, only ''sustainable guidelines'' : meat and fish are unwelcome, you take what you need and you share what you want, you think about others before thinking about yourself, you act if you see possible improvements and you ask for help if something is slowing you down. the hosts hear about the place through word of mouth and the various hospitality networks.
''When i was traveling in Istanbul i had the opportunity to stay with friends and friends of friends for unlimited periods. From that moment i believed in unconditional long-term hospitality. The most inspiring way to live with people is to invite these people into your house, and to give them open access'' says robino. the utopia started in February 2008 when the casa was first rented.
casarobino is an exchange platform of creative ideas, skills and practices. every Thursday an open diner takes place. the hosts pick-up food at the end of the market which otherwise would be thrown out, then they prepare delicious dishes shared by everyone. More than 250 people have become fellow hosts in the past 6 months.
The casa has multiples connections thanks to its website which functionalities are always improving. in the longer term the idea is to plant the seeds for other houses of the same type. Other steps for a new revolutionary form of hospitality.
