Music for today: The Mars Volta - Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus
I was on a really Bad Spot™ hitching out Vancouver but of course the guy who would finally pick me up would go all the way to Alberta. He was really tired so he asked me to drive after just a couple of minutes. I hope this isn't getting too boring for you guys, I'm still quite happy with it :)
Anyways, he fell asleep quickly so, not knowing where in Alberta he was actually headed to, I was left with a GMC pickup truck with big off road tires and three possible routes, all of which would lead to Alberta. I eventually choose Highway #5 like this:
- I want to take the north route.
- Highway 5 is the one I want to take.
- My route is supposedly very beautiful.
- I'm drivin', right?
- Highway 5 is where you end up if you just keep going.
- It's also good for Dale if he gets more sleep - even if I'm making a detour.
So, beware if you let me drive :)
But it turned out just perfect as I later learned he was planing to take the north route too. The rockies were of course beautiful but I saw a lot of bare mountains that probably have been victims of the Canadian lumber industry. The last part was crazy, it was night, raining and yet we had to watch out for moose and other dangerous wildlife.
I eventually made it to Jasper in just one afternoon and was warmly welcomed by Clayton whom I know from Project Volunteering Berlin and his best friend Lincoln. I was very happy to arrive at a fellow traveller's place where there is no need to clarify endless things because we both have a long experience in hosting and being hosted.
