Innovation is by its nature a process of complexity, and most of us are strong in parts of the innovation work – and weak in others. Some will enjoy the chaos and open questions at the outset of a project whereas other prefer to work with well-defined solutions. Some excel in drawing up the ‘big picture’ and finding new opportunities whereas others prefer the action of implementing solutions. Each of us will do well when playing to our strengths, however, is helped greatly when we integrate the other qualities and get to know them in ourselves. When we do that, we expand our range of personal power and adaptability in relation to innovation process, and we are able to base decisions on real choice, not on habitual pattern. Also, it becomes much simpler to include people with different strengths than your own. Working with people different from yourself becomes a learning opportunity rather than a strenuous experience.
