Music for today: Tool - Vicarious
If you ever happen to find yourself in Victoria you shouldn't miss the Royal BC Museum. They have great exhibitions about nature, First Nations and early white settlements in British Columbia, all presented in a very thoughtful and interesting way. It took me a while to get out of Victoria inthe afternoon, but like most of the time, it seemed to happen for a reason. After about three minutes of hitchhiking at a gas station exit, Tanjal(sp?) pulled over and we had a great time talking about gender equality (Canada sees a huge number of Russian or Asian women "imported" because some men prefer a more obedient wife), religion, propaganda, war, freedom etc. while she speeded and cursed on lame cars on the left lane. It was quite interesting, on the one hand she was trying to get into medical school to help people as a doctor who isn't just about money, but she also had strong plans about career and things like buying a used BMW. After two shorter lifts I was still walking down a ramp when a car already stopped for me, with Shane and Jinevra, a freshly married couple who went all the way across the island, almost to Tofino! They fed me with Shane-made pancakes with honey and tea. It was a bit funny that I had a really good conversation with Jinevra (who, not that it matters, was really cute :) while Shane was mostly quiet and didn't really react on our attempts to include him into the conversation :> Jinevra was from California, studied biology but had recently looked into agriculture therapy and met Shane while doing an internship at a farm on the island. They wanted to spend the winter in a quite place and were about to visit some sort of ecovillage. Lucky for me they went the wrong way and drove me almost all the way to Tofino.
I walked into town and missed the opportunity to talk to a girl because I was busy reacting to some drunk that stumpled into the scene. While I was still mourning the lost chance, I noticed a liquor store and decided to get a beer for the beach. After me a girl and a guy were buying three sixpacks of beer, and Laura spontaneously invited me to join their little flatshare party. In the basement, Steve was arranging a whole arsenal of party equipment - mirror ball, laser, fog machine and flash just for the four of us. We were soon joined by Rachel and subsequently had a wild smoky party, listened to metal and went to the beach in the middle of the night. I was pretty wasted but my N900 had a torch that was priceless in finding our way over the rocks and back.
