Dumpster Dive Log aka Trash-log

Paxus started making logs for the results of dumpster diving at http://trashwiki.org Maybe now and then we can also put the results here in this forum-post. Today's entry in the trashlog was:

Neighboorhoud dumpstering

One of the favorite spots for the hosts in our house is the market in Ten Katestraat. It is a daily market relatively close by to the house, and there are nice big blue containers with lots of left-overs. These are great for digging. Since we come there often, we also have a lot of knowledge on this market. A special page on trashwiki has recently been added to share this knowledge.

anarchism and the art of humor

Another wonderful dumpster-dove dinner.

Julian and I charged to the market at quarter past 5 through a typically drizzly amsterdam evening. We arrived just in time. The best score was a pile of shrink-wrapped broccoli heads. The most heart warming score - the guy who stopped us picking through the grapes in the dumpster so he could load up a bag of grapes straight from the table.

Vegan Carrot Cake!

Hey crew! Im back in delft for a few days, and have been doing more dumpstering here... got so many carrots we didnt know what to do with, so decided to make a cake! Having recently turned vegan, i made an attempt at my first non-egg/butter gateau... and I must say... it was brilliant! Tasted just like a real cake, if not better, so thought id pass on the recipe... its really simple!

Ingredients:

2 cups grated carrots
1 1/2 cups raisins
2 cups water
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cloves
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups flour
1 cup soy milk
2 tsp baking soda

creating it together

"Whoever is here is creating it together", writes Kasia on her blog Mama Kas on the Road. She stayed together with Sky for some days in the house, which was a great experience I think for all of us.

She also writes how she got 40 euro while busking, how she tried fixing the bikes with Sky, the dumpster diving results (3 giant bags with avocados, tomatoes, radishes, eggplants, carrots, star fruit, melon, pineapple, plums, and papaya) and how she observed the communal trash-dinner we recently had: "It felt totally comfortable and easy to take over the kitchen, rummage for spices, cook up a bunch of food, make tea... making me realize that my longing to root is not a desire to own my own house necessarily - the need is totally satisfied in being able to cook for people and host in this fluid way."

Filming the dumpstering

Hey there lovely casa people...

I have been ridiculously slow on getting back to you guys about filming the dumpstering... but have finally made some brain space, so here i am!

I would love love love to come along with you, whoever, whenever, when you go, i would love to get as much footage as possible, ask questions to anyone who doesnt mind answering etc..

Nice dinner, good people, random phone-calls and great inspiration for future projects. Even Erga was present, although from very far away, and I finally managed to clean the desk.

Guaka playing guitar, and even a Scarum mix music, sharing stories on dumpster diving, a Crew Change Guide and our first hitchhiking experiences. I love these evenings. Wet girls, jumping Kasper in a pink mini-skirt, or.. how to make a smoking-pipe out of an apple?

Today's Dumpster Diving Results

At the Albert Cuyp we collected today, with a special dedication of Jimmy Hendrix, 15 avocados (guacamole!), 4 mango's, 3 melons, 3 courgettes, 3 crops of lettuce, 2 bunches of flowers, 1 pineapple, 1 lemon and 200 grams of little pod vegetables. But that's not all, on the way back (while enjoying some nice music and atmosphere in the Vondelpark) we also dumpster dived in the neighborhood. That brought the house a carpet for the attic, a second bulletin board for in the kitchen, a water boiler, a new coat rack, a small table and a bed (jackpot!).
