Bicycle-Festival Cyclocamp

For those cyclists and community-enthusiasts out there, the Vienna based bike-kitchen calls for fellow bikers and bike-fixers to come to Cyclocap 2011, the first European Bike-festival. I guess there could be some people here who might be interested in joining.

The Cyclocamp is to provide a do-it-yourself (DIY) bicycle repair-space as well as a space for reflection on how these spaces are organised, learn from other DIY-bicycle spaces and have fun together. "We feel the need to (inter)connect with projects similar to ours, learn from other experiences and make friends for trips and other projects."

Finding yourself

Hi everybody! Hope you`re having great adventures, wherever in the world you are :) Speaking of which..there is a new functionality on the casa site where you can update your current location and see where other casa people are in the world! ...

Pasta Madre trailer

Two crazy persons from South of Italy went around Europe in 2009 with their pastamadre, a sourdough that is used to make traditional bread, which can be passed around so that everyone is able to make this bread. A video-camera went along with them, and the trailer of the movie is now available.

With images of familiar faces, the casa, other houses, traveling bread, a traveling oven and damoclash festival.

To support the making of the movie, a crowd-sourcing page is made available.

One new Bicycle Wheel for our Long Distance

Someone mysterious (s/he didn't leave a name-tag) took the front-wheel out of the bike that goes by the name "Long Distance" one of these nights and so the bike is now standing without a wheel. It looks kind of funny but it makes the bike very hard to ride. And that's a really big pity because it is one of the nicest bikes we have! You can go really far with it and that with great speed (hence the name Long Distance).

From Thursday to Sunday

It's almost spring, so time for some events! This Sunday and for the upcoming months: every 2nd and 4rd Sunday of the months casa will be open all afternoon for tea, bread-making & soup. Come early enough in the afternoon to learn how to make bread (based on sourdough), or at any other time to enjoy tea, a sunny balcony and great conversations.

Bring along your sense of humor, organic wheat flour or soja-flour, (ingredients for) bread-spreads and or veggies to cook soup with. Tea, bread-making skills, good company and space provided by the house. Bring along friends and people you think we should meet.

an introduction to ham radio

This week, a lot has happened to me, both in real life and through the internet--- and via [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amateur_radio|amateur radio - also known as ham radio - communities]].

I think the world of [[http://www.arrl.org/ham-radio-history|ham radio]] is something of interest to Casa people, even and especially, as nomads. It could also be helpful for the Danube raft project, for example, when for vast stretches of time there may be no access to internet.

Postal Book Project

Howdy Folks,

So, Charlie and I have begun a new project - one that has been on the radar a while but that is finally getting set down.

We are writing a book about Post.

As you probably know, we LOVE letters. We love writing them, receiving them, and everything about them. So - we are writing a book about postal systems around the world. Letters, Stamps, Post Offices, all that stuff. One of the parts of the book is a little trial, to test the quality of International Postal Systems. We want to know how reliable the post offices are in places like Mongolia, Indonesia, or Pakistan.

Danube

An idea in my mind for 3 years : building up a wooden raft, rafting down the Danube from source to delta.
Well this morning I woke up willing to make this idea concrete. Each year at first buds, first rays of sun, East and Balkans are calling me deep inside, and I find myself each time following the meandering river, dreaming : what if i followed it to the end?
But it just sounds senseless alone. I'm a lonesome walker, biker, dreamer, but I want to be a social sailer! Yep.

Casa Update. Pindakaas with Sambal.

Accompanied by sun, I enjoyed great days in Den Haag this week. I am involved in a project about reinventing space which focuses around dumpster diving and community (kind of our speciality). Somewhat related but independent I will also give a talk about 'dropping out' (another speciality) next week in Amstedam, and I am writing lots of words that somehow are turned into sentences but sometimes they don't - and they still make sense!
