amsterdam

from little things, big things grow

The casa was my only reason to come to Amsterdam and had a lot to do with why I stayed. For the most part, I was unaware of the fact that I was living in Holland (except for the weather, which kept me grounded). In fact, I was not living in the Netherlands at all; I was living in the casa, whether inside or outside of it. In casa, I could dare to be myself and witness the reflection in others. In casa, I grew a family. In casa, I could travel by means of standing still. Stand still senza stand-by: motionless change, seamless nomadism, boundless voyage.

Amylin, just before hitchhiking to Grenoble and Porto, leaving the comfy casa for 2,633 km of snow and rain... Photo by Anu, retouched by amylin.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the "Share a photo" feature is broken. This one is hosted by flickr.

"i am never just in one place at a time"

i arrived very early this morning in porto, in a mere 6 rides, which is half of the amount that it took from amsterdam to grenoble.
during the day, all of the rides spoke only french, except for two, whom also spoke some moroccan arabic :)

on the second to last petrol station in france, i found a portuguese guy who was driving straight to porto. he was speaking to the servicemen in french, so i approached him french... we spoke for a little while, and he said he would be going in the direction of spain. he looked very spanish, so i decided to go ahead and ask:

Back home!

I came back from Hamburg where my ex-roommate had stollen all the stuff in the flat and even worse, canceled our internet contract. One month struggling to get free stuff to furnish the flat, a new roommate, all that from the cyber-cafe, or squatting at friends. It was about time I came again to Amsterdam.

It's on my way anyway, I'm catching a plane to Réunion, Indian Ocean next Monday from Paris.

Yesterday we had like 8 people around a Finnish vegetarian meal (nothing is impossible). Did you guys know that those nuts drink milk during the meal? You did? Oh... sorry.

Brouwerij 't IJ for Beer!

If you enjoy beer as I do, a trip to Brouwerij 't IJ is worthwhile. Nitai and I were thinking of going to the Heineken Brewery, until Robino told us of this much more interesting, and Dutch, Brewery on the East side.

It took about 25min. to bike from the house.... very easy to find: Just head East, along the zoo, then look for the windmill.

If you want the tour of the brewery, you'll have to show up on Friday, otherwise, it's always good for a quality beer between 3pm and 8pm.

Windmill

Who would have thought that we would find a windmill in Amsterdam?
