learning to live

Following a general assembly, we occupied my university on Monday. One more red dot on the map. Where's Amsterdam!? Besides, Berlin-Friedrichshain is currently seeing some action after police raided two autonomous houses, but everyone attending HER will notice that anyway. See you next week :)

People here consent with

People here consent with whatever they are told. The ones who do try to resist, are free; free to be ignored.

Amsterdam is one of the most boring places to be in fact, apart from the bike-culture and 'legalized squats'. People smoke too much and consent easily; they're happy when they get a finger although they demand the whole hand. Repressive tolerance is a concept engrained in Dutch political-culture. Life is too easy here, for too many. Why would you go against dominant culture?

Besides, universities and tuition fees are already 10 years further here than what you have in Germany and Austria. The Dutch like the reforms that are currently implemented European-wide. It took very little effort to change the education system, and it gives the country a competetive advantage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bologna_process#The_Netherlands

"Within a repressive society, even progressive movements threaten to turn into their opposite to the degree to which they accept the rules of the game." http://www.marcuse.org/herbert/pubs/60spubs/65repressivetolerance.htm

Happy to go to Berlin soon. Can't wait to be with nomadic HER again :)
